PCI recently held a fundraiser in honour of Heather Schindel. Heather taught at PCI from September of 2010 until this past December 2018 when she passed away unexpectedly.
She adopted her cats, Shadow and Oscar, from PAWS. PCI sold purple t shirts with the phrase, “Je suis ananas” on them and split the proceeds between PAWS and the Winnipeg Humane Society. Each place received a donation of $690.
Her favourite colour was purple, and “Je suis ananas” was a phrase she used often in her classroom when her students were being silly. It is a reference to Telefrancais, a Canadian French language tv show.
Thank you for including PAWS in this wonderful tribute to Heather.
Thank you Allee for thinking of PAWS with your birthday celebration. Donations were requested with PAWS in mind. Dog food, treats and $60 were recently received at the Animal Adoption Centre. Thanks Allee and those who supported this generous idea!

PAWS would like to thank the grades 1 and 5 students from La Verendrye School for providing lovely treats for the PAWS volunteers February 20th. They were individually wrapped and were enjoyed! Creative cards accompanied the sweet treats. Teacher Krista Austin explained that this generous gesture was part of the “Kindness Project” at the school. Very much appreciated!
Mrs. Verwey’s grade 2 class at Fort la Reine School had been thinking of ways they could raise money for PAWS. They decided a book sale would be a great idea, and would host one during I Love To Read Month! They collected used books and made posters to spread the word. Books were 25 cents each, though many kind staff and students opted to donate more! From February 11-15 they spent their recesses selling books. Their goal was to raise $200. They ended up raising $256!
Thank you students for hosting this event and donating the proceeds to PAWS!
Chris Gibson (right) of the Independent Order of Oddfellows Lodge #3 presented a $1000 cheque to PAWS representative Catherine Aller-Brooke. This significant donation will go far in helping animals in need and the associated expenses. Thank you – it’s so very much appreciated!
